Dr. Hassan specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases of the retina and vitreous. He treats a wide variety of diseases including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and retinal tears and detachments. Dr. Hassan takes the time to ensure patients leave the clinic with a clear understanding of their condition and upcoming treatments.
Our Services
We provide personalized care to diagnose and treat medical and surgical diseases of the vitreous and the retina.
New patients can expect a dilated examination of BOTH eyes on the first visit. This includes baseline ophthalmic imaging and workup prior to being examined by our physician.
Patient visits can take up to an hour, with longer visits for new patients.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive eye condition that affects the macula, the central part of the retina, leading to loss of central vision. It is a leading cause of vision impairment in older adults, with two forms: dry AMD, characterized by thinning of the macula, and wet AMD, involving abnormal blood vessel growth.

Retinal detachments occur when the retina separates from the underlying tissue, often due to fluid accumulation, and can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated promptly. Retinal tears, which can precede detachments, and floaters, caused by tiny clumps of gel or cells inside the vitreous, are common symptoms that warrant immediate medical attention to prevent serious complications.

Diabetic retinopathy is a diabetes-related eye condition caused by damage to the blood vessels in the retina, leading to vision impairment or blindness if untreated. It progresses through stages, from mild non-proliferative changes to severe proliferative retinopathy, where abnormal blood vessel growth can cause bleeding and retinal scarring.

A dislocated intraocular lens (IOL) occurs when an artificial lens implant, typically placed during cataract surgery, shifts out of its proper position inside the eye. This can cause blurry vision, double vision, or glare, and may worsen over time if not treated. In many cases, surgery can safely reposition or replace the lens to restore clear and stable vision.

Dr. Hassan also treats retinal vascular disease (retinal vein and artery occlusions), epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and other diseases of the retina and vitreous.

Surgery Locations:
Dr. Hassan performs surgeries at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights Surgery Center, Lutheran General, Sherman, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital downtown.
Laser and injections are done in clinic.
